How Is Rashi Calculated?
In Vedic astrology, the sky is divided into 12 equal signs of 30 degrees each. Your rashi is the sign where the Moon was placed at the moment you were born. Our tool calculates the Moon's position with astronomical formulas and converts it to the sidereal zodiac using the Lahiri ayanamsa, which is the standard in India.
Rashi vs Sun Sign
Western astrology uses the Sun sign, which depends only on your birth date. Vedic astrology uses the Moon sign. Because the Moon moves fast, your rashi can be different from your Sun sign. Both are shown in the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find my rashi by date of birth?
Enter your date of birth, time of birth and country. The tool finds the position of the Moon at that moment using the Lahiri ayanamsa. The sign where the Moon is placed is your Vedic rashi (Moon sign).
Is rashi based on the Moon or the Sun?
In Indian (Vedic) astrology, your rashi is your Moon sign. Western astrology uses the Sun sign. Our tool shows both, so you can see the difference.
Why does birth time matter for rashi?
The Moon changes its sign about every two and a half days. If you were born on a day when the Moon was changing sign, a few hours can change your rashi.
What if I do not know my birth time?
Use 12:00. If the result shows that the Moon was close to the edge of a sign, your rashi may be the next or previous sign, so try to find your exact birth time.
